Frequently Asked Questions & Answers

You’ve put so much time and effort into planning your wedding you’ll want every special moment captured for your photo album. If you are considering investing in a professional photographer for your wedding, then you will want the answers to the following questions. I will make it easy for you to make a decision by doing the homework for you. Below are my responses to the most common and important questions for a bride and groom to ask a potential wedding photographer.

The Basics

Do you have my date available? This will determine whether you should continue your interest in Irish Innovations.

How far in advance do I need to book with you? I always say the sooner the better in order to be sure I am available for your wedding date. I always check with an interested bride before moving onto the next one if they are interested in booking the same date. I would appreciate knowing when and why you have made a decision not to hire me in order to move forward with business.

How long have you been in business? Have you done many weddings that were similar to mine in size and style? About eight years. I have most likely photographed a wedding similar in style and size to yours. I have photographed 40 to 50 weddings on my own and alongside other big photographers who have helped to improve my skills.

How would you describe your photography style? I have an illustrative photography style, which is a blend of traditional and photojournalistic style with an emphasis on lighting, creative composition, unique angles and perspectives. I often use natural elements as filters and use available items from your wedding as props to create unique imagery. After we set the scene for lighting and background we will place the subjects and encourage them to relax and interact. This produces spontaneous and romantic candids as you enjoy the moments of your special day. Of course, we will also perfectly stage those wonderful formal portraits that you know your folks will be expecting.

How would you describe your working style? What do you think distinguishes your work from that of other photographers? What separates me from the rest of today’s photographers is that I am an artist with the knowledge of equipment, experience, and understanding of diverse couples and their families, which allows me to capture the natural essence of your wedding day while making sure you look your best!

Do you have a portfolio I can review? You may view my Wedding Photography and art on my website and Facebook

Are all of the images yours, and is the work recent? Yes, I update my galleries about every six months

May I have a list of references? Can I read reviews? Yes. You may read my reviews on Facebook – Irish Innovations

The Shoot

What type of equipment do you use? I shoot with a digital Nikon D3200 and D5300 with various lenses to always be ready to take a desired photo. I use artificial lighting to gently fill in shadows, or add a dramatic affect.

Are you the photographer who will shoot my wedding? If so will you have any assistance with you on that day or a second photographer? Yes, I will lead the wedding photography as my assistant and I follow your days events.

Do you have backup equipment? What about a back-up plan if you are unable to photograph my wedding for some reason? I am prepared with the necessary equipment to assure nothing will be missed. In the case I am unable to attend your wedding, I will do my best to hire another trusted photographer, or you may choose to hire your own and withdraw from the contract.

If my wedding site is out of your area, do you charge a travel fee? Travel fees apply after 2 hours travel time.

How will you and your team be dressed? Dressy and professional, but comfortable. Usually a blend of darker colors that aren’t distracting.

Is it okay if other people take photos while you are? Yes, just no flash please. Keep in mind that cell phones are annoying and distracting to your images.

Can I give you a list of specific shots we would like? Yes, and I will do my best to fulfill your expectations. However, your wedding day needs to allow for them in the schedule and be prepared as weather may not always be cooperative. Have a plan B!

What information do you need from me before the wedding day? Signed contract and deposit. I would appreciate a schedule of events and be notified of any other details that will impact your photography results. Last payment is due.

Have you ever worked with my florist? DJ? Coordinator etc.? Do you have a list of references? Yes

If you have not been to the site of my wedding before could you check it out in advance? I typically do not unless the Bride and Groom feel it’s necessary. I always plan to arrive at the venue nice and early to check out the site and plan for potential backdrops and lighting for your desired checklist. I will take any notes I can on a description of the location and preferred backgrounds. I typically am prepared with the equipment for any given wedding location and style.

Would you like a copy of the schedule of events and expected people in formal photographs? Yes please! Make sure you tell the folks who are expected to be in formal photographs after the ceremony.

When should I plan to have you arrive and leave for the best wedding photography coverage when thinking about the schedule of events? I like to arrive while you are getting ready for the big day and will usually leave soon after I have gathered at least a few drunken candids and we have met your photography checklist expectations.

How long should I plan for the formal photographs to take after the ceremony? At least an hour
